Becky Shipman Obituary

Rebecca "Becky" Rush Shipman, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister, departed this life on June 15, 2025, at her home in Greenville, South Carolina. She leaves behind a legacy of love, learning, and heartfelt memories. Born in Orangeburg, SC in 1951, she was the daughter of the late William I. Rush, Jr. and Annie Lou Hutto Rush. Becky earned her Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education from Winthrop University in 1973. She dedicated 27 years of her life to nurturing young minds as a loving kindergarten teacher at Plain Elementary School in Simpsonville. Her passion for education was matched only by her love for her family and her vibrant spirit. She and Carl were members of and enjoyed worshiping at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church in Mauldin. Becky is survived by her devoted husband of 50 years, Carl A. Shipman, Jr.; their three children, Susan S. Miranda, Joshua H. Shipman, and Elizabeth S. Hetzel; and her adoring seven grandchildren, Logan Carlisle, Sophia Shipman, Jeremiah Shipman, Xander Shipman, Annabeth Hetzel, Aiden Hetzel and Luke Hetzel. She also leaves behind her cherished sister, Foye Clark. Outside the classroom, Rebecca found joy in reading, cross stitch and sewing, crafting beautiful creations that brought warmth to many. She cherished the serene beauty of the mountains, enjoyed walking along the sandy shores of Isle of Palms, and held a special fondness for Jekyll Island. As we honor Becky's memory, please join the family in celebrating her life on Tuesday, June 24, 2025 during a visitation from 12 noon until 12:45 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Southeast followed by the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel. Burial will follow in Graceland East Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 W. Faris Rd., Greenville, SC 29605.
