Barbara Thompson Obituary

Barbara Ann Thompson, 73, of Spartanburg, SC, passed away peacefully at her residence on Friday, February 27, 2026. A native of Spartanburg, SC, she was the cherished daughter of the late L.J. Evans and Hattie Virginia Thompson. She was educated in the Spartanburg County public school system. She retired from First Baptist Church of Spartanburg after serving forty faithful years in their Housekeeping Department.

She was a woman of strength with a strong sense of self who embodied love, compassion, and kindness. She also possessed excellent organizational skills and took pride in being efficient in the way she approached various tasks throughout her daily living.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Larry Thompson and Jerry Thompson.

Ms. Thompson leaves dear memories to her daughter, Sassy McDowell; two grandchildren, Michael R. Jones and Chelsea Jones; six adoring great-grandchildren, Juju, Lil Mike, Caden, Elias, Jiking, and Jamirr; two brothers, Thomas Tyrone (Brenda) Thompson and Kelly (Keisha) Thompson; a special caregiver, Reggie Booker; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving relatives and friends, all of whom will truly miss her.

Services will be private for the family. They appreciate your understanding, support and prayers during this difficult time.
