Barbara Bonnell Obituary

Barbara A. Bonnell, 84, beloved wife of the late Rudy Joe Bonnell, passed away on Monday, July 14, 2025.

Born in Greenville, she was the daughter of the late Arnold and Ruby McGarity.

Barbara was a faithful member of Rehoboth Baptist Church. A devoted homemaker, she loved cooking for her family and found great joy in gardening, camping, and fishing.

She was also a proud member of the Southern Bells, a close-knit group of Southern women who enjoyed sharing meals and laughter together. One of her favorite traditions was hosting New Year's Day gatherings at her home, where her family would come together to celebrate.

Above all, Barbara was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved the Lord, her family, and her church with all her heart.

She will be missed beyond compare, but her legacy of love and faith will live on in all who knew her.

She is survived by daughter, Deborah Thurston (Bill); son, Michael "Mike" Bonnell (Evelyn); grandchildren, Angie Spencer (Jeff), Chad Thurston (Rachel), Kimberly Bonnell, and Steven Bonnell (Kaitlyn) ; great-grandchildren Adam and Anna Leigh, Ryan, Hunter, Delaney, Aiden, Landry, Turner, Collin, Brystol, Kinsley, and Dalton.

A visitation will be held Thursday, July 17, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Northwest. The funeral service will be held on Friday, July 18, 2025, at 9:45 a.m. at Rehoboth Baptist Church. Burial will be held in Greenville Memorial Gardens.
