Annie Bell (Hicks) Carrere, beloved aunt and friend, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2026, at the age of 91. Born on February 6, 1934, in
Greenville, South Carolina, she was the daughter of James Henry Hicks, Sr. and Mabel (Andrews) Hicks, and one of three children in a loving family. A proud graduate of West Gantt High School, Annie dedicated her professional career to Union Carbide in the electronics manufacturing industry, where she worked as a Payroll Specialist until her retirement in 1986.
Annie's life was characterized by her unwavering generosity and selflessness. Those who knew her will remember her incredible kindness, as she often went out of her way to support and care for her loved ones. She was a gentle caretaker during the transitions of her father, mother, and sister, demonstrating a deep commitment to family that defined her character.
In her later years, Annie found joy and companionship in her marriage to Louis John "Buddy" Carrere in her early 50s. Together they shared a passion for travel. Annie was a fashionable and accessorized lady who had matching shoes and handbags for every outfit in her closet. She was a doting and energetic aunt who cherished spending time with her nieces and nephews. Her positive energy and warm smile left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
After her marriage, Annie became a devoted member of The Church of West Gantt, having previously attended Reedy Fork Baptist Church with her parents. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her through both challenges and celebrations.
Those left to cherish Annie's memories include two nieces, Jan Anderson and her husband Perry and Alice Hicks-Ray and her husband Leslie; a nephew, Larry Hicks; great-nieces, Kelsey Davis, Ashley Reynolds, Kali Solomon, Kala Burrell, Kimberly Baldwin, Kristy Burroughs; great-nephews, Russell Anderson and Jacob Anderson; and a host of great-great nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, James and Mabel Hicks; her beloved husband, Louis "Buddy" Carrere; sister, Kathleen Hicks Alverson; brother, James Henry Hicks, Jr.; and a nephew, William Harold Alverson.
In fond remembrance of her life filled with love, warmth, and dedication, we invite those who knew Annie to join us in celebrating her legacy. Visitation will be held Friday, January 9, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Downtown. A graveside service will follow the visitation period at 1:00 p.m. at Greenville Memorial Gardens, Piedmont.

charity of one's choice.
