Alton Sheffield Obituary

Alton Ray Sheffield, 76, died peacefully and entered the presence his Lord and Savior on Friday, July 25, 2025. Born in Orangeburg, S.C., he was the son of the late Curtis Alton and Jewell Lefvendahl Sheffield. Alton was a dedicated and faithful member of Earle Street Baptist Church. He cherished his Sunday School class, Loaves and Fishes, where he formed meaningful connections and shared his faith with others. He was also a regular patron of the North Main Soda Shop, where he regularly met with friends for breakfast. He held a special place in his heart for his beloved grandmother, Bertha Lefvendahl, whose influence shaped his character and values. He graduated from Lander College, had a variety of interesting jobs through the years, working as a surveyor at the beach, a staff person at a psychiatric hospital, and a professional caregiver before retirement. Alton loved his cat, Lollipop, and is lovingly remembered by his church family, friends, and all whose lives he touched with his grateful spirit. As we honor his memory, we invite all who knew him to join us in worshiping God and celebrating his life on Friday, August 1, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Earle Street Baptist Church. The burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Earle Street Baptist Church Friends are encouraged to share their favorite memories of Alton with the family by clicking on the button labeled "Share A Memory".
