Wilbert Burgess Obituary

Wilbert Sinclair Burgess died on December 18, 2018 at Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital, Murrells Inlet, SC. Funeral services were held on December 26, 2018 at Saint John A.M.E. Church, Rev. Joseph Swinton, Jr., Pastor.

Mr. Burgess was born on February 21, 1940 in Pawleys Island, SC to Thomasena Burgess and George Brown. He was lovingly reared by his grandparents, Ishmael and Susan Burgess. Wilbert attended school in the Parkersville Community and Howard High School in Georgetown, SC. At an early age, he joined St. John African Methodist Episcopal Church, where the family worshiped, and remained a member until death.

In 1971, Wilbert was united in marriage to the former Miss Ossie Miller. He was employed as a maintenance worker at Brookgreen Gardens, Pawleys Island, for a number of years. His favorite hobbies were planting, fishing, and hunting. Wilbert was a phenomenal cook and often shared this talent with neighbors and friends.

Surviving are his wife Mrs. Ossie L. Burgess, Pawleys Island, SC; his daughters, Jennifer E. Knox and Monica Y. Burgess, both of Pawleys Island, SC; his sister, Cozetta Duncan-Foote of Englewood, NJ; one brother, Arnold Duncan of Brooklyn, NY. Funeral services entrusted to Wilds Funeral Home, LLC.
