Victor Rasheed Obituary

Victor Rasheed was born November 7, 1927 in Adelaide, South Australia. He was a son of William Abraham and Hasebe Rasheed.

He passed away peacefully at home on Pawleys Island, SC with his family around him on September 23, 2022.

He spent most of his childhood in the "Outback"of Australia. His family moved back to Adelaide when he was in high school. He attended the University of Adelaide and became a cub reporter for the Adelaide Times newspaper. During his time at the paper he was sent to the frontier town of Brokenhill for a year where he learned to fly in an open cockpit plane. Flying remained one of the joys of his life. In 1951 he spent a year traveling all over the world, writing stories that he sent back to his newspaper. He was a gifted storyteller and spent the rest of his life entertaining his family and friends with stories of his childhood and travels.

He came to the United States in 1952 and married Laurice Rasheed of Georgetown, SC. They were married for 50 years before her death in 2002. They made their home in Washington, D.C. He spent his career involved with the oil industry. He served on the Energy Commission under Presidents Ronald Regan and Jimmy Carter. He traveled to Saudi Arabia and other areas of the world in this capacity. He was the national Executive Director for the Service Station Dealers of America and wrote their monthly magazine. He also wrote and promoted laws (bills) that were passed on state levels and by the U.S. Supreme Court. The laws he wrote were to protect the interests of the service station dealers. He often stopped to chat with Storm Thurmond on the steps of the Senate. Canada, Puerto Rico and Australia also joined his association. When he retired, he wrote a weekly column for a Japanese news syndicate.

He is survived by his daughter, Suzanne Rasheed Brown and son-in-law, L.D. "Davy" Brown of Pawleys Island; his grand-daughter Jennifer Brown Flaherty (Matthew) of Raleigh, NC; grand-son William Christopher Brown (Meghan) of Los Angeles, CA; five great-grandsons, Jones, Dylan, Jasper, Banks and Waylon; and several nieces and nephews in the US and Australia.

The funeral Mass will be held at Precious Blood of Christ Catholic Church, Pawleys Island, SC on September 26, 2022 with Father Paul MacNeil officiating. A luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall.

I send all my love to the entire Rasheed family, so many whom I have met over the years through my dearest friend, Anne. I didn't know Victor but he sounds as amazing as all the other Rasheeds I've met! My deepest condolences to everyone.
