Vernon Stewart Obituary
Mr. Stewart was born the son of Vernon Lee Stewart, Sr. and Flossie Shuler Stewart on October 3, 1942 in Jamestown. He was a retired employee of International Paper Company and was a member of the Quarter Century Club. He formerly attended Sampit United Methodist Church and North Hampton Baptist Church; and was a current member of Cornerstone Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was loved and respected by all who knew him and he loved serving others as a volunteer for Teen Challenge, Helping Hands, and Martha's House. He was a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, a caring brother, and a loyal friend.
Vernon and Shirley were married June 19, 1987 and celebrated 32 years together. Their home was blessed with three children, James V. "Jamey" Stewart(Carlette), Pamela S. Wedgeworth(Buddy), and Pamela J. Price; three grandchildren, Harrison C. Wedgeworth, Hatteras C. Wedgeworth, Arwen E. Wedgeworth; and two sisters, Dorothy S. Thornley and Terri S. Edens.
He was predeceased by: his parents; and his first wife, Linda Stewart.
A Home Going Celebration will be 1PM, Saturday, December 14, 2019 at the Cornerstone Baptist Church, 1797 Brick Chimney Road, Georgetown.
The Stewart family will receive family and friends prior to the service from 12-1PM in the church sanctuary.
A reception honoring Mr. Vernon will be held immediately after the service in the Church Fellowship Hall.
The Committal Service will follow at 4PM in the Sampit United Methodist Church Cemetery directed by the Georgetown Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home.
