Vera Newton Obituary

Vera Lamb Newton, 82, the widow of Yoakam Phillip Newton, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at her residence.

Mrs. Newton was born the daughter of Rev. Raymond Eugene Lamb and Vinice Olivia Droze Lamb on December 6, 1935 in Charleston. She owned and operated her own daycare. She touched many lives through her ministry of music, which was her joy in life. Over the years she sang in several gospel groups and severed as a pianists for over 25 years for local churches including Spring Pond PH Church and Socastee PH Church. She will always be remembered for loving people unconditionally and her gentle spirit. Her grands and great-grands kept her young at heart. She leaves behind a Godly heritage as described in Proverbs 31:30, "But a woman who fears the LORD, she shall be praised."

She is survived by: three children, Raymond LeGrand (Robin) Newton, Daphne Marie (Earl) Davis, and Glenda Faye (Ruffin) Smith; seven grandchildren, Jarrett (Rebecca) Davis, Amber (Jason) McBee, Jared (Mara) Driggers, Patrick (Abby) Davis, Kendra (Matt) Doak, Brittany Smith (Marshall) Mishoe, and Savannah Smith; eight great-grandchildren, Davis McBee, Ellie McBee, Brody Davis, Payton Mishoe, Lila Eve Davis, Sadie Renee Davis, Graham Cole Driggers, and Jax Coy Davis; and a sister, Althea Lamb.

She was predeceased by: her parents; her husband; four brothers, Nolan Lamb, Bernice Lamb, Roy Lamb, and Bobby Lamb; and a sister, Jeanine Lamb.

A Home Going Celebration will be 3PM, Sunday, June 3, 2018 at the Spring Pond Pentecostal Holiness Church. Interment will follow in the Andrews Memorial Cemetery directed by the Andrews Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home.

Visitation will be 5-7PM, Saturday, June 2, 2018 at the Andrews Chapel, 606 S. Rosemary Ave. Andrews, SC.
