Sharon Hughes Obituary
Sharon Hughes age 70, passed away peacefully at Tideland Hospice House in Georgetown, S.C. on March 8, 2017. She was an avid reader and lifelong learner. She received her PHD in English from University of Southern Mississippi in 1995. She taught English for 31 years in the Georgetown County School System, Horry Georgetown Technical College and Coastal Carolina University.
Her hobbies included reading, sewing, traveling and connecting with friends on Facebook. Her favorite activity was going to the beach with Casey and Jerry.
She was preceded in death by her parents Dwight and Mary Alice Layne and brother, Roy Layne.
She leaves behind her loving husband and soulmate of 41 years, Jerry and her Shih Tzu, Casey. Also surviving are her sister in law Meredith Layne Thomas and nephews, Michael and Brian Layne of South Pittsburg, Tennessee, brother in law, Bob (Cheryl) Hughes of Delaware, OH, and nieces Cynthia (Rob) Tkach of Sedalia, CO. and Michelle (Jeff) Cashner of Hilliard, OH, 6 great nephews and nieces and father and mother in law, Robert and Carolyn Hughes of Brownsville, TN.
Visitation will be at Goldfinch Funeral Home, 202 Hinnant Ln, Pawleys Island Friday, March 10, 4-6:00 PM.
A celebration of her life will be held at All Saints Church, 3560 Kings River Rd., Pawleys Island Saturday March 11, 4:00 PM.
No flowers please. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials in Sharon's name to All Saints Church or All 4 Paws Animal Rescue, 708 Petigru Rd., Pawleys Island SC 29585.

I met Sharon 30 years ago as a new teacher at Andrews High School. She immediately tuck me under her wing and served as a mentor to me. I am so saddened by this news and my prayers for Jerry and all family members. Heaven got a good one this week!

Sharon was a beautiful friend and neighbor growing up together in South Pittsburg. We had so many evenings together at my home. My Mom loved her. She was always active in sharing her creative writing talents. She has been blessed with Jerry and family. She has always been a blessing to her friends.
