Sarah Russell Obituary

Sarah Knox Russell, 66, died on March 2, 2018 at Northside Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida. Funeral services were held on Marcy 9, 2018 at Greater Gordon Chapel A.M.E. Church where Rev. Aundry N. Evans is pastor. The eulogy was delivered by Dr. Evelyn Wright, First Lady of Faith Assembly Disciples Church.

Mrs. Russell was born on November 3, 1951 in Horry County, SC, to Mr. Richard Knox, Jr. and Mrs. Sarah Jane Brown Knox. She graduated from Whittemore High School, Conway, SC, then matriculated to Claflin University, Orangeburg, SC, where she graduated, earning her Bachelor of Arts in English Degree in 1973. She taught Language Arts at Socastee Middle School and St. James Middle School, Burgess, SC. In 1985 she obtained a Masters of Education Degree from the University of South Carolina, Columbia. After thirty-three years, Mrs. Russell retired as an educator in June 2007. She was a member of Faith Assembly of Disciples Church, Murrells Inlet, SC.

Mrs. Russell met and later married Mr. Theodore Russell in 1975. This union was blessed with two daughters.

Surviving are her husband Theodore Russell, Murrells Inlet, SC; her daughters, Kimbryetta Manigault, Moncks Corner, SC, Carmela Russell, Columbia, SC, and Brioni Hayes, Garden City, SC; her sister, Lillie Mazyck, Summerville, SC; her brothers, Richard Knox III, and Rev. Everett Plowden, both of Burgess, SC, Levi Knox, Brandon, FL, Suffragen Bishop Phillip Knox, Charleston, SC, Laverne Knox, Darlington, SC, Malachi Knox, Augusta, GA, and Jeffery Knox, Greenville, SC. Funeral services entrusted to Wilds Funeral Home, LLC.
