Roger Baxley Obituary

Roger Derriel Baxley, 72, the beloved husband of Mary Lee Marlow Baxley, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, August 21, 2015 at his residence.

Mr. Baxley was born a son of Dennis James Baxley and Fannie Cribb Baxley on March 3, 1943 in Georgetown County. He was a 1961 graduate of Pleasant Hill High School and earned numerous professional training certificates. He was a 31 year employee of Santee Electric Cooperative, Inc. retiring in 2004 while as a Distribution Specialist. He was a Funeral Director's Assistant for McKenzie Funeral Home since 2010; a former Reserve County Deputy; and a volunteer Firefighter and First Responder. He was a lifelong member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and attended the Freedom Tabernacle Full Gospel Church. As a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, and cherished friend, Roger leaves a legacy of compassionate servanthood and contagious joy.

He temporarily says farewell to his wife of 35 years; four children, Bobby Derriel (Angela) Baxley, Terri B. (Steven) Elliott, William Roger (Miranda) Baxley, and Bobby Ray (Heather McCants) Marlow; and seventeen grandchildren, Josh, Baylea, Alex, Joshua, Emily, Noah, Jayda, Kylie, Kraven, Davis, Dalton, Holden, Kaylee, Elyse, Lani, Leyton, and Eli.

He joins his family including his parents and a brother, DJ Baxley, Jr., whom he has never met until now; and many waiting friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be 5PM, Sunday, August 23, 2015 at the Freedom Tabernacle Full Gospel Church. Officiating will be Rev. Wayne Elliott, Rev. Thad Jacobs, and Rev. Raymond Shaw. Interment will follow in the church cemetery directed by the Hemingway Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home.

The Baxley family will receive family and friends prior to the service from 2:00 - 4:30PM in the church sanctuary.

McKenzie Funeral Home of Hemingway salutes the memory and treasures the friendship of Roger Baxley as with honor we serve the Baxley Family.
