Robert Bennett Obituary

Robert "Bob" Bennett Jr. passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2022, at his home in Georgetown, S.C. He was 83 years old.

Mr. Bennett was born on September 18, 1939, in Adel, Georgia to the late Robert Bennett, Sr., and the late Sallye Garrett Bennett. He graduated in 1963 from Georgia Tech with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Engineering and later earned a Master of Business Administration from Emory University. Bob spent his career as a finance executive, first with R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company and later with Security Pacific Bank and First Greensboro Home Equity. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, although he would gladly tell you that the only thing he flew was a desk.

Outside of his work, Bob was a cherished husband, father, grandfather and friend who gave easily and freely of his time and talents. He was a member of Prince George Winyah Parish Church. He served as the treasurer of the Debordieu Colony Community Association and was a member of Tidelands Community Hospice Board. In his free time, Bob enjoyed reading, solving crossword puzzles, playing Bridge, and watching "Jeopardy" and "Wheel of Fortune". He also enjoyed having a cocktail with friends overlooking the ocean at the Gazebo in beautiful DeBordieu. And Papa, as he was known to most, especially loved spending time with family - both made and chosen.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Jody Swanson Bennett; sons, Brad Bennett (Paula) and Garrett Bennett; daughters, Laurie McClure, Kristin Wooten (Robert), and Kassie Rempel (Geoffrey); grandchildren, Abbi Bennett, Beau Bennett, Robbie Wooten, Owen Wooten (Erin), Bennett Wooten, Oakley Rempel, Lilian Rempel, Grace Bennett, and Rylee Bennett; sister, Joan Nicholson (Ray); a nephew John Nicholson (Sharon); sister-in-law, Sue Ann Wilson (David), their children, Katie Smyth (Bob), Beth Wilson, and Michael Wilson (Meghan); and countless friends from a life well-lived. He was preceded in death by one niece Elizabeth Porterfield.

The family invites you to celebrate Bob at a Memorial Service at Prince George Winyah Parish Church on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Bob's name to Tidelands Community Hospice, 2591 N.
