Ojetta Rhue Obituary

Ojetta Rose Rhue died on November 10, 2019 at Grand Strand Medical Center, Myrtle Beach, SC. Funeral services were held on November 16, 2019 at Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church, Rev. Alphonso N. Scott, M. Div., pastor.

Ms. Rhue was born on October 18, 1944 in Georgetown, SC, to Sam Rhue and Janie Atkinson Rhue. Her parents and four siblings preceded her in death: Marie Rhue Frasier, Rev. Felix Rhue, Louise Rhue Nellum, and Lester Smith. "Jetta" as she was affectionately called, was a 1962 graduate of Howard High School, a 1966 graduate of Morris College, (Sumter, SC) where she earned a BS degree in Elementary Education and she was a member of the Morris College Chorale. She did further studies at The Citadel, SC State College and Coastal Carolina University. She was employed as a teacher at Waccamaw EOC Head Start, Association for Retired Citizens, Georgetown County Schools and retired from Brown's Ferry Elementary School in 2008. She was a dedicated lifetime member of Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully in many capacities. Jetta was also Leader of Girl Scouts Troop 510. She used her human voice as a musical instrument. She was a member of the CAAHO Singers and a Charter Member of the Jerusalem Baptist Association Mass Choir. Jetta held membership in numerous associations including: Delta Sigma Theta Sorority (Golden Life), NAACP, Howard High School Alumni Association, and Morris College Alumni Association.

Surviving are her siblings, Corine Rhue Hudson, Andrews, SC, Joyce Rhue and Maudest Rhue-Scott, both of Georgetown, SC, Roberta Rhue Waymer, Orangeburg, SC, and Sam C. Rhue (Dorothy), of Columbia, SC; nieces she helped in rearing as her own: Ojetta "Beth" Rhue (Goddaughter), and Jaylyn Rhue, both of Georgetown, SC, Tessye Rhue and Millye Rhue, both of Charlotte, NC, Janet Rhue Bell (Seddrick), Simpsonville, SC, and Jayna Rhue, Greensboro, NC. Funeral services entrusted to Wilds Funeral Home, LLC.
