Michael Killeen Obituary

Michael Francis Killeen, 73, of St. Helena Island, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at Beaufort Memorial Hospital. Michael, born on September 15, 1952, in Manhattan, New York, was the oldest of five children born to the late Michael Francis and Ellen T. (Harkins) Killeen. He is preceded in death by his parents, Michael Francis and Ellen Teresa Killeen, his brother Patrick "Packy", and his sisters, Patty Lynn and Kerri Ellen He is survived by his devoted wife of 19 years, Lela (Franklin) Killeen and his three sons, Michael, Sean (Stephanie) and Kyle (Sarah) who will forever cherish the strength, honesty, and the love he brought into their lives. His legacy will remain in the hearts of his three grandchildren, Patrick, Siobhan, and Bailey through the tales and legend as shared by family. Michael will also be profoundly missed by his beloved dog, Murray. A Union One Elevator Mechanic in New York City for over 30 years, the proud New Yorker and his wife relocated to the low country of South Carolina and landed in Beaufort where they lived in their beloved 19th century farmhouse. An avid fisherman who captained many vessels throughout his life, Michael passed his love of the sea and his knowledge of it down to his sons. Gifted with a remarkable mechanical mind, he devoted countless hours to restoring his ever-growing collection of vintage cars. Adventurous in his younger years, he found joy exploring ski slopes around the world. A self-proclaimed "smartest man around," Michael was always generous in sharing his wisdom-whether or not it was requested. Though often direct and at times brash, his heart was enormous, and his unwavering willingness to help friends and family was undeniable. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Michael's memory to hhhumane.org or the local animal shelter of your choice. Visitation for Michael Killeen will be held on Friday, October 24, 2025, from 3–5 PM at Anderson Funeral Home in Beaufort, SC. A Celebration of Michael's Life will take place at a later date and time in Queens, New York
