Mary Gladson Obituary

Mary Louise Newton Gladson, 88, widow of John H. "Jay" Gladson, Jr., passed away Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at her home.

Born on March 13, 1928, in Georgetown County, she was a daughter of the late Godfrey Dempsey "G.D." Gladson and the late Elizabeth Caroline Smith Gladson. Mrs. Gladson was a member of First Baptist Church and the Ruth Sunday School Class. Mrs. Gladson was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking, sewing and most of all spending time with her family.

Survivors include six children, Baron B. Newton, Jr. (Judy) of Lake Charles, LA, Myrick Corbett Newton, Sr. (Sherrilyn) of Andrews, Cindy L. Newton of Georgetown, Charlotte N. Skipper (Kevin) of Georgetown, Ray E. Gladson (Gaye) of Roanoke, VA and John G. Gladson of Roanoke, VA; nine grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; one sister, Betty Scherich of Redondo, CA; four special friends, Margaret and Bobby Burton, Evelyn Washington and Ruby Woodsides.



She was preceded in death by her first husband, Baron B. Newton, Sr.; three sisters, Lena Gladson, Peggy Turner and Bernice Smith; and two brothers, Albert Gladson and Paul Gladson.

Funeral Services will be held at 3 PM Saturday, September 17, 2016 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Ted Sherrill officiating. Burial will follow in Sampit United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 219 Cleland St. Georgetown, SC 29440 or to Tidelands Community Hospice, 2591. N. Fraser St. Georgetown, SC 29440.
