Marvin Thigpen Obituary

Marvin Wayne Thigpen, 75, husband of the late Kathryn Malone Thigpen, died Monday, August 28, 2017, under loving care from Agape Hospice at Compass Post Acute Rehabilitation in Conway.

Mr. Thigpen was born in Georgetown on August 22, 1942, the son of the late Marvin Monroe Thigpen and Ruby Mae Hardee Thigpen. He attended Andrews High School, graduated from Camden Military Academy and later attended Daytona Beach Junior College. Mr. Thigpen served his country as a sergeant in the United States Army. He was a former employee of International Paper Company. He also worked in the marine industry as a tug boat captain, running the pilot boat which brought ships into the Georgetown Harbor. Mr. Thigpen retired from James W. Smith Real Estate Company. He also was the owner and operator of Sand Dollar Management and Cleaning Service. Mr. Thigpen attended First Baptist Church of Georgetown.

In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Thigpen is predeceased by a sister, Monca Jean Thigpen Cribb.

Surviving are: a son, Steven R. Thigpen of Murrells Inlet, two daughters, Josey T. Vereen of Pawleys Island and Jessica T. Legge (Dean) of Andrews; a sister, Patricia T. Fenters of Hemingway; six grandchildren, Brantley Kavanaugh (Brandon), Olivia Thigpen, Bailey and Chandler Vereen, and Audrey and Alex Legge; and a great-granddaughter, Harper Kavanaugh.

Memorial Services will be three o'clock Thursday, August 31, 2017, at the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home. Officiating will be the Rev. Don Fenters, III.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, August 30, 2017, at the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral home from six until eight o'clock.
