Kenneth Dwyer Obituary
Dr. Kenneth Lee Dwyer, M.D., passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, July 15th2025 at the age of 85. He is dearly missed by his friends, his family, and his french bulldog, Virginia. We will forever be grateful to the wonderful care from his Urologic Oncologist Dr. Nicholas Donin at UCLA and his incredible team at Crescent Hospice in Bluffton, SC.
Ken was born in Elkwood, VA to Harry and Edna Dwyer and he grew up with his sister, Margaret (Peggy Bell) in Occoquan, VA. He began working at the age of 12 making milkshakes behind the counter at the local drug store where he met his first love, Nancy Taylor. He graduated from Gar-field High School in 1958 and they married in 1960. He continued his education at the University of Virginia, the George Washington University, and the Medical College of Virginia.
After college, he joined the United States Army and was stationed at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in Denver, CO where he and Nancy welcomed their first born, Kirk Lee Dwyer. In 1968, they were stationed at Wurzburg Army Hospital in Wurzburg, Germany where their daughter, Deanna Paige Dwyer, was born. In 1970, they returned to Charlottesville, VA for his residency in Radiology. He then moved his family to Staunton, VA and was a radiologist at King's Daughters Hospital.
In 1977, Ken fell in love and married Jeanne Leggett of South Hill, VA and they became the proud parents of Keith Thomas Dwyer in 1978. In 1980, they moved to Charleston, WV where he was a radiologist at CAMC Memorial Hospital and then in private practice with Associated Radiologists, Inc. Ken and Jeanne were blessed with their daughter, Sara Kate Dwyer, in 1987.
Ken embraced life with a deep sense of adventure, a spirit he carried with him from an early age. His passions were many; traveling, flying, skiing, golfing, sailing, and, of course, savoring a fine scotch. While living in Europe, Ken became an excellent skier, effortlessly navigating the slopes with the same enthusiasm he brought to everything he did. He began flying lessons as a young man and later fulfilled a lifelong dream by purchasing an airplane with his dear friends Sharon and Colonel Bill Peters, taking to the skies whenever he could. Ken also enjoyed shooting shotguns, adding yet another layer to his love of outdoor pursuits. He especially loved playing golf with his son Keith, and his proudest golfing moment was a hole-in-one at the legendary St. Andrews. He always loved sailing, and at the age of 80, proudly became a certified sailor alongside his daughter Paige. Every pursuit was a reflection of Ken's love for life and his commitment to making the most of every moment.
Ken loved the finer things in life and took joy in sharing them with others. Kind and generous, he brought warmth and light to every moment. Ken lived each day with intention, never taking a single one for granted, and was always in search of his next adventure. His zest for life was contagious, inspiring everyone he knew to embrace each moment fully. His family will continue to honor his legacy by living life to the fullest, living like Ken.
