Judith Stadele Obituary

Judith Folsome Stadele passed away in her sleep at her home in Pawleys Island, SC, on January 31, 2018, at 77 years of age. She was a gracious woman who lived a long and rich life. Her family and friends miss her terribly.

Judith was born on January 19, 1941 in Ann Arbor, MI, the only daughter of Leah Carter and Dr. Clair E. Folsome. She had two older brothers, Dr. Clair Folsome and Carter John Folsome. After attending Hartridge School in Plainfield, NJ, and Brown University, she graduated from Brookdale Community College with a degree in Respiratory Therapy. A pioneering woman of the early 1970s, she practiced in this field for the next forty years, most notably at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, NJ, as Director of the Respiratory Therapy Department at Stonybrook in NY, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital in SC, and with a stint at Stevens Hospital in Edmonds, WA. She was a tireless advocate for her patients, assisting in airlifts to the NICU and in transitioning patients off of ICU ventilators.

Judy loved the ocean, and her passions included gardening, classical music, reading, sailing, biking, traveling, and cooking, and she doted on her extensive family and friends of all ages and from all walks of life. She adored her cats, adopting her last cat upon learning the cat had spent many years in a cage.

Judy is survived by her four children, Lee Stadele (Megen) of Nederland, CO; Kurt Stadele (Sarah) of Milton, GA; Karen Stadele (Monte) of Salem, OR; and Marjorie Bedford (Mike) of Seattle, WA; her ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild; by her nephews, Wyn and Russell Folsome; by her many "adopted" children who considered her "Mom" as well; and by her two cats, Andi and Cinder. A memorial service is being planned for March 17 in Pawleys Island. Another one will take place over the summer in New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to her local 501C rescue mission, the Compassion Fund, at All 4 Paws Rescue.
