John Burke Obituary

John "Jack" Thorp Burke, Jr., husband of Joan Carolyn Volz Burke, of Beaufort, SC, died Sunday, September 28, 2025 at Sprenger Healthcare of Port Royal, SC after a short illness. Graveside funeral services will be held on Monday, October 6, 2025 at 11:00 am in Beaufort National Cemetery with military honors. Followed by a luncheon at St. John's Lutheran Church on Lady's Island. Mr. Burke was born on January 17, 1933 in Oceanside, NY. He is the son of the late John T. Burke, Sr. and Helen Reilly Burke. Mr. Burke served in the US Navy and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was also a mechanic, commercial fisherman, served as a repair technician and retired from Sears Roebuck and Company. Surviving in addition to his wife, Joan; are children Patsy (Gary) Cooler, Jack (Cindi), Jimmy (Tracey) and Denise (Billy) Smith. 11 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Regina Jervey and Isabelle Vogl. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to St. John's Lutheran Church.
