John Britton Obituary

John Henry Britton, Sr., 88, died on January 29, 2018 at Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were held on February 4, 2018 at Greater St. Stephen A.M.E. Church, where Rev. Dr. Carl L. Anderson, Sr. is pastor.

Mr. Britton was born on February 9, 1929 in Georgetown, SC to the marital union between Mr. James Britton, Sr. and Mrs. Annie Ford Britton. He received his education in the public schools of Georgetown County and was an alumnus of Howard High School. In early youth, he attended Greater St. Stephen A.M.E. Church. For thirty-five years, he worked with reinsurance firm, John Gallin & Sons, Inc., New York, and performed commercial office building maintenance with the World Trade Center. Following retirement, and his return to South Carolina, for ten years he served on the Georgetown Planning Commission. On July 2, 1984, John abided in holy matrimony to the former Miss Earlene Franklin Lawyer. He was a very active member of Allen A.M.E. Church in Jamaica Queens, NY, where he served faithfully in many areas. He later rejoined Greater St. Stephen and was also a member of The Son's of Allen.

Surviving are his wife, Earlene Britton, Georgetown, SC; their children, Raymond Britton, Queens, NY, John Britton, Jr., Delaware, Eric Lawyer, Tucson, AZ, Stephen Lawyer, Georgetown, SC, Henry Lawyer, Indiana, Karen Winns, Stroudsburg, PA, and Tammy Lawyer, Orange Park, FL. Funeral services entrusted to Wilds Funeral Home, LLC.
