Jim Bindner Obituary

Jim Bindner: chef, artist, fisherman, musician, businessman and entrepreneur. Father, husband, brother, uncle, and best friend. Though Jim passed away on January 27, 2019, he will live on brightly in the minds and hearts of those who loved him. Jim left no man behind; from feeding the town out of The Gray Man during Hurricane Hugo, to entertaining Pawleys at his fine dining restaurant Ivory's, to becoming ordained so he could marry his friends on their special day, to bringing home an injured stray cat that now naps happily on his porch in the sun, nothing meant more to him than making the lives of those around him just a little bit better. Jim, you made all of our lives so much better just by being here. You fished with us, cooked with us, laughed with us (and at us), and brought out the best in us. You lived life exuberantly, and over the sixty years of your life here in Pawleys Island, taught us to do the same. Everything and everyone you touched will forever carry your unadulterated joy and optimism for the world. Wherever you are now, playing the saxophone and dancing with the contagious energy you never could quite contain, may peace be with you.

Jim's loving family--wife Cindy, daughters Samantha and Mallory, brothers Donnie, Jeff, and Joe, sisters Linda and Roseann, the nieces, nephews, and cousins he cherished, and the five dogs and cats he snuck a bit of each meal to--will miss him every day. We love you, Jim.

Services will be at Precious Blood of Christ Catholic Church on Thursday at 4 pm.

In lieu of flowers, Jim's family is asking for donations to build the Celebration Park he had been diligently working on with the blessing and help of Brookgreen Gardens, Pawleys Island Festival of Music and Art, and the Georgetown County Government. Jim's most recent innovation-in-progress was to create a park where locals could gather to listen to live music, laugh, and reminisce on happy memories of loved ones who had passed. The park will be a representation of his soul: colorful, creative, and carefree. Help us bring Jim's final dream to life by contributing to JB's Celebration Park Inc.

I moved from Murrells Inlet to Wilmington several years ago and was not aware of this fine gentleman's passing. Doing business with Jim was always a pleasant experience and he was always very gracious with his compliments and referrals. Condolences to his family for their loss which was way too soon.

While I didn't have the pleasure of seeing Jim in his adult life, it is clear from the loving words written about him here that he grew into a magnified version of the kind, funny, caring boy that I knew growing up. My deepest condolences to his wife and children and the entire Bindner family.
