Janson Patrick Malloy Obituary
In Loving Memory of Janson William Patrick Malloy
January 5, 1984 – October 16, 2025
Janson William Patrick Malloy, 41, of Bluffton, South Carolina, passed away on October 16, 2025.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts, on January 5, 1984, Janson was the son of Jan ("Doc") Malloy and Lesli Ann Frey. His early life took him across the country - from Massachusetts to Texas, Arkansas and Virginia to Pennsylvania - each place leaving its mark and expanding the circle of people lucky enough to call him a friend. A graduate of Bensalem High School in 2002, Janson went on to attend Bucks County Community College, where his athleticism shone on the soccer field as Captain and his team went on to win the Regional Championship.
After moving to Hilton Head, South Carolina, Janson worked at The Big Bamboo, The Sage Room, and Spice restaurants alongside his sister, Jana, and stepbrother, Michael Taylor. Those years were filled with camaraderie, laughter, and long-lasting friendships that felt more like family. His warmth, humor, and strong work ethic made him a favorite among coworkers and patrons alike, and his ability to connect with people was a gift he carried throughout his life.
Janson later began a career in retail, becoming a well-loved manager at Best Buy, where his natural gift for leadership and genuine care for people shone. He eventually transitioned into finance in Bluffton before finding his true calling - teaching and coaching.
After coaching his son's soccer team, Janson felt called to work more closely with young people. In 2023, he began working at local recreation centers and as a substitute teacher, eventually teaching Middle School Social Studies at Royal Live Oaks Academy in Hardeeville. There, he coached girls' volleyball and boys' soccer alongside Coach Robert Parkes, sharing his knowledge, humor, and heart. His students and players adored him, and the lessons he taught - about teamwork, integrity, and joy - will live on in every life he touched.
Janson will be remembered for his intelligence, quick wit, and warmth. He had a natural charm that made people feel at ease and valued. He was a fun and caring father to his children, Camila and Killian, and a loving presence in the lives of Griffin and Violet, whom he embraced as his own. Together they shared laughter, inside jokes, and secret handshakes - small moments that will be treasured always.
He was a deeply caring and protective partner to his fiancée, Bethanne Barner, with whom he shared a relationship grounded in love, humor, and mutual devotion. Their passions and values mirrored each other and she is honored to carry on his legacy inspiring the lives of young people.
Janson's zest for life was reflected in everything he did - from his love of sports, especially the Yankees, movies, and pop culture to his enthusiasm for holidays, music, and time spent with those he loved most. He was also an amazing cook who delighted in preparing meals for family and friends. A lifelong athlete, Janson earned his purple belt in Jiu Jitsu and loved playing competitive beach volleyball, where his athleticism and team spirit shone as brightly as his smile. Whether gathered around a soccer field, a volleyball court, or a kitchen table, Janson's warmth and laughter filled every space he entered.
He is survived by his parents, Lesli Misenheimer, Jan ("Doc") and stepmother Lucy Malloy; his fiancée, Bethanne Barner; his children, Camila Malloy and Killian Malloy; his "step" children, Griffin Barner and Violet Barner; his sister, Jana Arcidiacono. (Nove); his stepbrother, Michael Taylor (Amy, Haley, and Geri); and his grandmother, Nina Jo King. He will also be dearly missed by his close friends who knew him better as "Maverick", Reid Germain, Jackson Bareford, Carter Martinson, Beav Brodie, Dan Peluso, Coach Robert Parkes, and many more.
Though Janson's passing leaves an ache that words cannot fill, his legacy of love, laughter, and genuine kindness will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
