James Waters Obituary

James Robert "Bob" Waters, Sr., 91, of Beaufort, SC, died Tuesday, August 26, 2025, in Friends of Carolina Hospice Cottage. Mr. Waters was born on December 8, 1933, in Savannah, GA. He is the son of the late Oscar Horace Waters and Helen Edith (Mikell) Waters. Bob was preceded by his loving wife of 62 years, Peggy Ann (Mcvey) Waters and his son, John Lewis Waters. Brothers: Cleavy Eugene Waters, Clarence "Buddy" Dow Waters and Sister Helen Edith (Waters) Robertson. Bob is survived by his son, James Robert Waters, Jr. and wife Sherry Waters; daughter, Windy Ann Vest; Grandchildren; Glen Robert Waters and his wife Heather, Liane Nichole Crouse and her husband Aaron, Zachary Adam (Waters) Tihey and his wife Hannah, Shelby Ann Vest. Great Grandchildren: Audrey Taylor Croft, Robert Martin Waters, Aaron Glen Crouse Jr., Mason James Waters; Siblings: brother, Leamon Waters and his wife Chris; sister, Linda Keaton and her husband Bud; He has many Nieces and Nephews that he adored as well. He grew up in Savannah enjoying his days with his siblings and many friends roaming the streets of the city, finding all kinds of work and fun. He loved to tell stories about selling peanuts as a child at the shipyard as people left work, being an Usher at Lucas theatre, sold tomatoes from his bicycle and a bat boy for the Savanah Indians at Grayson Stadium. Bob joined the National Guard when he was 17 for almost 2 years and served 4 years in the U.S. Navy and was a Veteran of the Korean War. After the Navy he was employed at the Savannah, Ga shipyard as a Diver and Rigger. His final occupation prior to retirement was with the U.S. Corps of Engineers Savannah District, located at Clarks Hill Reservoir as the construction & maintenance foreman. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025 at 11:00am at Sea Island Presbyterian Church on Lady's Island in Beaufort, SC. Please join us after the service for lunch in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Friends of Caroline Hospice in Ridgeland, SC.
