James Todd Obituary

On March 30, 2025 James Ralph "Ray" Todd, 80, passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family. Ray was born September 12,1944 in Georgetown, South Carolina, to the late James Everett Todd and Eula Faye Baker Todd.

After graduating in the Class of 1962 from Winyah High School in Georgetown, SC, Ray married his high school sweetheart, Linda Garrett Ferguson in 1963. They had two daughters, Susan Mathis Todd and Julie Lynn Todd. Ray and Linda later agreed to an amicable divorce. In 1983, Ray found love again; he married Roberta "Bobbie" Boykin Murdock. He became a step-father to both Tracy Murdock Freedman & Carl Matthew "Matt" Murdock.

At International Paper in the maintenance department on the roll grinders since 1962, Ray retired in 2012. In his element, fishing for flounder on the waters around Pawleys Island and North Inlet, Ray also loved to travel and to sail on Royal Caribbean cruises. He could often be found fishing with friends, or teaching his kids and grandkids to fish. Ray and Bobbie especially enjoyed listening to and singing along with his "son" Bill Krauss. Ray's hobbies included cheering on his South Carolina Gamecocks, cooking the world's best chicken bog, teaching Tracy to carry on his chicken bog tradition, maintaining his vehicles, gardening, and woodworking.

A loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Ray is survived by: his wife of 42 years, Bobbie; his daughters Susan Todd Crawford and Julie Todd Myers, both of Lexington, SC; Tracy Murdock Freedman (Matt) of Surfside Beach, SC; and step-son Carl Matthew "Matt" Murdock (Lisa). Also surviving are his eight grandchildren: Jessica Gutierrez Sienkiewicz, Jeffrey Todd Myers (Paisley), Zackery James Crawford, Hannah Grace Crawford Reed (Takoda), Carlee Marie Johnson (Ethan), Joseph "Joey" Edward O'Brien, Clayton "Clay" Murdock, and Lauren Murdock Bates (Jason). Ray also leaves behind seven great grandchildren: Olivia Sienkiewicz, Amelia Sienkiewicz, Austin Myers, and Carter Myers; Jackson Carter, Cami Carter, and Ryleigh Bates.

Ray was a "southern gentleman" who never met a stranger and made all feel like family. He will be missed by family, many friends, and his church family, First Baptist Church Surfside's Berean Sunday School class.

Ray is predeceased by his father and his mother, his son-in-law Vanderveer Reed Crawford and his first wife Linda Garrett Ferguson Todd.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM, Wednesday, April 16, 2025 at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel in Murrells Inlet. Visitation will be from 3pm to 4pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
