Mr. James W. Port, age 85, passed away Wednesday September 7, 2016 at his home in Pleasant Hill. James was the son of the late W. J. Port and Adria Cribb Port. He was retired from International Paper Company. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He was a US Army Veteran having served in the Korean War and was a member of the Hemingway American Legion Post #84.

James loved his family and the Pleasant Hill Community. He was a member of the Pleasant Hill Community Organization and Georgetown County Fire Department for many years. He may best be remembered for the many delicious pots of pileau he prepared over the years for family, friends and the Farm Bureau.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Mary Lou Miller Port; daughters Tricia Port, Mary Ann Port and Vicki (Edward) Owens of Pleasant Hill; a brother, R. L. Port; sister-in-law, Vivian T. Port; and many special nieces and nephews.

James was predeceased by a brother, Edgar Port; a brother and sister-in-law, Julian and Miriam Port; a brother, Vernon Port; and a sister and brother-in-law, Edna and Marvin Cribb.

Funeral services will be held Saturday September 10, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery directed by Morris Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Family Life Center on Friday September 9, 2016 from 6 to 8 PM. The family will otherwise be receiving friends at the former Gathering Place Restaurant in Pleasant Hill.
