James Piver Obituary

James Judson Piver, 88, passed away on Friday, October 3, 2025, at his home in Heritage Plantation. He was surrounded by his wife and two daughters, and much love. Jim (known as Judson to his family) was born in Ashe, North Carolina, Brunswick County, in 1937. His family moved to Hampstead, North Carolina, in 1947. Jim lived on the family farm until his graduation from Topsail High School in 1955, when he graduated as Valedictorian of his class. He graduated from North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina, with a Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering. Later in life, he attended Columbia University in New York and received his Masters Degree in Business Administration. Jim joined the United States Air Force and was stationed at Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter, South Carolina. While serving his tour of duty, he met his future wife, Selma Jennings. They were married in Sumter and after completing his tour, they moved to Georgetown, South Carolina where he was employed by International Paper Company. Jim enjoyed much success while at International Paper, earning him the position of Mill Manager in Natchez, Mississippi. Besides South Carolina, he and his family lived in five states during his career, including Mississippi, Connecticut, Tennessee and Louisiana. He retired in Pawleys Island and in 1992, they built their home in Heritage and lived there until his passing. He was an avid golfer and a very intent fisherman. He enjoyed many activities outdoors, but especially enjoyed teaching his grandson how to fish "correctly." Jim loved to sing and always volunteered his time to sing in the church choir wherever they lived. He sang at Saint Paul's Waccamaw Methodist Church for many years. Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Selma Elizabeth Jennings Piver, two daughters, Christie Piver Streetman (Bert) and DeLaine Piver Garcia (Juan), his grandson, Aleczander Garcia, his sister, Charlotte Piver Kelly and brother-In-law, John Taylor, his brother-In-law, LW Jennings, Jr, and sister-in-law, Ann Jennings, as well as nieces, Jackie (Stan), Glenda, Luellyn, and nephews, Marshall (Sharon) and Roy (Cindy). Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Joan Piver Taylor, his brothers Rupert Piver and Glenn Piver, sister-in-law, Ruth Piver and brother-in-law, George Kelly. The family will receive friends and loved ones from 4:00-6:00pm, Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at Goldfinch Funeral Home in Pawleys Island. A graveside funeral service will be held at 12:00pm, Thursday, October 9, 2025, at Sea Lawn Cemetery in Hampstead North Carolina. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Jim's memory to the Alzheimer's Association.

Selma our prayers are with you and your family. We are so glad we saw
you and Jim at rehab. Little did we know he would be gone so soon. He
was a great choir member and he will be missed.
