JAMES GRATE Obituary

James S. Lee Grate, 53, died on Friday, October 27, 2017 at Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were held November 2, 2017 at Wilds Courtyard Chapel conducted by Rev. Reverend Lawrence Myers, Sr., Pastor of New Hope Union Methodist Episcopal Church, Sumter, South Carolina.

Mr. Grate was born on April 16, 1964 in Georgetown, South Carolina, to the marital union of Mr. Alonzo Grate and Mrs. Wilhelmena White Grate. His parents, a sister, Wilma Patricia Grate, and a brother, Jackson Robinson, all preceded him in death. "Tang", as he was affectionately called by family members and friends, grew up in Georgetown, where he spent all of his life. He was educated in the public schools of Georgetown County. At an early age, he was employed with the Deason Hotel and Speedway of Georgetown.

Surviving are: two sisters, Mrs. Pearlie Green, and Ms. Dorothy Grate, both of Georgetown, SC; six brothers, Perry Grate, Harrah, OK, Willie Carl Grate, Minister Anthony Grate, Carl Lewis, Leon Thomas, and Calvin Thomas, all of Georgetown, SC; a special and devoted niece, Lenora Cooper of Georgetown, SC; Funeral services entrusted to Wilds Funeral Home, LLC.
