Henry Greene Obituary

Mr. Henry L. Greene died on January 19, 2022 at Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital, Georgetown, SC. Funeral Services were held on January 24, 2022 at Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church.

Mr. Greene was born on June 30, 1930 in Orangeburg County, SC to the late Hammond and Estelle Davis Greene. He was a graduate of Howard High School and later attended Rack Technical School, Hartford, CT. Mr. Greene served his Country Honorably in the United States Army. On April 23, 1955 he married the former Miss Viola Holmes. Their son, Sheldon, preceded him in death. Mr. Greene retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1979. He was a member of Immanuel Missionary Baptist Church, New Haven, CT, founding member of Covenant Missionary Baptist Church, Georgetown, and since 2019 served faithfully as Deacon at Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church. He served as a member of numerous organizations including First Vice President of the Democratic Party Winyah Bay Precinct, a Poll Clerk, Georgetown County, member of President Barack Obama's Kitchen Cabinet, West End Citizens Council, and a lifetime member of the NAACP.

Surviving are his wife, Viola H. Greene of the home; his sister Pastor Gloria G. Fraser, New Haven, CT; grandchildren, Sheldon II (Audra), Lakeview, AL, Alonzo Jamal (Ashley), Homerville, GA, Nativia, North Charleston, SC, Deanquis, Lori's, SC; eight great-grandchildren; Henry was also a surrogate to Dr. Annette Sessions (Dr. Joseph), the nieces and nephews of the Greene, Evans, Fraser, Gore and Holmes families, Wanda Lewis; two goddaughters, Tirrell Ezekiel Eagleton, Florence, SC, Anntonette Brown Stanley, New Haven, CT, and a number of individuals who adopted him as "Uncle Henry"; special friends Norman Tappin, Sr. and Frank Ponteau.

Henry L. Greene, he was my best friend for over 50 years, I could never have had a better friend then Henry L. Greene, Henry always had my back. I loved Henry and I will definitely miss him!!!
Viola, I know that you and Henry lived a blessed and happy life together. The beautiful life that y'all shared together and the sweet beautiful relationship that y'all had will pulled thru when times get hard!!
