Evelyn Walker Obituary
Mrs. Evelyn Joan Walker, age 89 of Beaufort, SC passed away on July 12, 2025 at her residence in Beaufort, SC.
She was lovingly known as Granny to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and Toody to her family in Indiana.
Evelyn was the youngest of seven children, born on January 24, 1936 in Daviess County, IN to Louis Emory and Nancy Ola Fitzgerald who preceded her in death.
Evelyn is also preceded in death by her husband Charles E. Walker, Sr., her first husband Harvey Lee Carey and son Daniel Lee Carey.
Evelyn is survived by her daughters; Diana Carey Watson (Tim) of Galax, VA and Tammy Jo Mathison (Jack) of Beaufort, SC. Granddaughters Lori Marie Carey of Asheville, NC, Diana Lacy Lundquist (Tim) of Bristol, TN, Christalyn Jo Falkenberg of Beaufort, SC, Philip Lee Buchanan of Dublin, GA and Caitlin Adele Buckner (Richard Wingert) of Houston, TX. Great Granddaughters Haley Ryan Johnston of Asheville, NC and Adison Jo Falkenberg of Beaufort, SC, Great Grandson Jackson Lee Falkenberg of Beaufort, SC and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Evelyn was a current member of Grays Hill Baptist Church, Beaufort, SC and a former member of New Hope Baptist Church, Zephyrhills, FL and the First Baptist Church of Crystal Springs, FL where she raised her children, taught Sunday school and led many a young lady in the Girls Auxiliary, as well as volunteering in several aspects of the church.
Evelyn was a remarkable woman who demonstrated incredible strength, devotion, and resilience throughout her life. She balanced numerous demanding roles: caring for her husband Harvey, who had a disability, raising their three children, fostering several other children, working full-time for the City of Zephyrhills, and furthering her education at Pasco Hernando Community College where she earned a certificate in business management. She eventually retired in 1995 after a long career with the City of Zephyrhills.
Evelyn was a budding artist painting in oils, watercolors and enjoyed needle crafting.
Evelyn and her second husband Charlie enjoyed travel and camping throughout the country, reaching all fifty states and portions of Canada in their many adventures.
A memorial service will be held Friday, July 18. 2025, 3:00 PM at Anderson Funeral Home, 611 Robert Smalls Pkwy, Beaufort, SC. Followed by a reception at Grays Hill Baptist Church, 2749 Trask Pkwy., Beaufort, SC 29906.
