Evelyn Nann Obituary

Evelyn C. Nann, 75, passed away October 9, 2021, peacefully in Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital.

Evelyn (Evy) was born on September 22, 1945, in Newport, RI. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Fernandes and Evelyn Gomes Fernandes. She is survived by her husband, Peter A. Nann of 35 years and a son Joseph J. Marques of Middletown, RI.

Evelyn graduated from Middletown High School in 1964. After graduation, she worked at several part time jobs, such as: Dunkin Doughnuts, in Nursing Homes as a Nurse's Aide, and a Hotel Banquet waitress in the Sheraton Islander Hotel in Newport. She also helped her father run his dairy farm in Middleton. After a few years of waitressing in the hotel, she was promoted to Assistant Banquet Manager, hiring of staff, payroll and the training and organization of the server team. This hotel was extremely busy all year round with banquets as large as 3500 people per sitting during large events such as the "America's Cup Race", Congressional Conferences and the US Marine Corp National Birthday Ball.

In 1982, Evy decided to make a career change to spend more time with her son. Evelyn was hired by Aquidneck Data Corporation (ADC) as Assistant Security Officer. ADC was a government contractor supporting the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division in Newport. In 1984, Peter and Evelyn met at ADC and were married in the Anguilla, West Indies in 1986. In 1992, she and Peter left Aquidneck Data Corporation and were hired by Aquidneck Management Associates (AMA). Her new position was as a Financial Analyst. The contracts she managed supported the Naval Undersea Warfare Center. She was tasked with managing money for several major contracts worth millions of dollars. By this time, she had established her reputation as a Top Notch Financial Analyst that she wouldn't stop working until she had accounted for every penny of the contract.

In 2004, Evelyn and Peter were approached by another government contractor, Epsilon Systems Corporation (ESC) and asked if they would consider leaving AMA and work for them with the major task of setting up a new office for them in Newport. ESC was a San Diego company with minimal knowledge of the Newport area or contracting practices. We both moved to ESC in 2004 and needed to start from scratch setting up a new office. We worked independently of corporate and setup the new office in two weeks. We originally said we would stay for four years and then turnover the office to someone else. As a result of our business development success and dedication to our customers Peter and I stayed six years and finally retired in 2010. We immediately moved to Georgetown to continue our life's journey together.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Prince George Winyah Church, 300 Broad Street, Georgetown, SC 29440.
