Elsie Hill Obituary

Elsie Breland Wheatley Hill Elsie Hill was born on May 10, 1933 in Walterboro, SC. She is the daughter of the late Robert Breland and Ella Mary Crosby Breland. Elsie Hill died at the age of 92 on Sunday Aug 17. She was married to Earl Wheatley for 14 years until his death at the age of 39. They had 3 children Anne, Lynn and son in law, Jim, and Ben and daughter in law Natalie, who she raised on her own. At the age of 50 she married George Hill from NC who she met on a trip to Portugal. She had a loving extended family with his daughters Sandra and Diane after his death. She was predeceased by 5 siblings. She built a career in interior design at Stuckey Furniture for 26 years and had a large clientele in Beaufort and Hilton Head Island. After her retirement she became a master gardener and worked tirelessly in her garden. She was also an avid reader and made many trips to Capa for new reading material. She became a "dog person" in her 80's and discovered the joy that they bring. She was also a loving grandmother to Lindsey, Sarah and Caroline and a great grandmother to 4 children. Elsie believed in move it or lose it. She was walking 2 miles a day in her 80s and was seen by many as she gathered trash on those walks. She has inspired her neighbors who continue her work. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2025 at 11:00am in The Baptist Church of Beaufort. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to The Baptist Church of Beaufort, Operation Smile or Friends of Caroline Hospice.
