Elizabeth Butt Obituary

Elizabeth "Libby" Harvey Butt, 98 years young, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 20, 2025, in Sprenger Healthcare of Port Royal.

Libby was born on July 13, 1927, to Bessie Martin Harvey and Jake Harvey in Ridgeland, SC, and raised in Beaufort, SC. She married Emil Ogden Butt at the First Baptist Church of Beaufort on February 2, 1946.

Emil's profession moved the family across the country for forty years but Beaufort remained their true home and they visited whenever possible. Following retirement, Libby and Emil permanently returned to Lady's Island in 1990.

Libby had an active church life in Altar Guilds, Craft Guilds, and Bible Studies. Her favorite family activities were gatherings at the cabin on Roan Mountain, NC, and Happy Hours on Lucy Creek, Lady's Island. While home, she loved to read, knit and enjoy her cats.

Libby was preceded in death by Emil on February 22, 2003, her sister Lorine Hill on January 27, 2019, brother-in-law James J. Hill on July 17, 2014, and son-in-law James Wagner on May 17, 2025.

She is survived by her daughter Annette Hrach and husband James, of Beaufort; daughter Celeste Wagner of Knoxville, TN; and daughter Janice List and husband Jeffrey of Green Bay, WI. She is also survived by her granchildren, Thomas Hrach of Beaufort, Elizabeth Hrach of Beaufort, Walter List of Chicago, IL, and Theodore List and wife Brianna of Denver, CO.

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2026 at 10:30am in St. Mark's Episcopal Church with burial in Beaufort National Cemetery.
