Edward Edwards Obituary

Edward Lewis Edwards, 70, husband of Susan Powell Edwards, passed away Saturday, June 2, 2018 at his residence.

A memorial service with military honors, officiated by Pastor Ricky West, will be held on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. in Screven Baptist Church. Visitation will be an hour prior to the service, beginning at 11 a.m. in the church.

Mr. Edwards was born in Birmingham, Alabama on October 6, 1947 to the late Carlton M. Edwards and Maxine Moore Edwards.

After graduating from Winyah High School, Mr. Edwards enlisted in the Navy and served bravely in the Vietnam War. He was a member of Messiah Baptist Church and of VFW Post 6444 where he served on the House and Finance Committees, as well as a Senior Vice President. He was a member of the Gamecock Club for 40 years and served as past president for the Georgetown Gamecock Club. He was a current board member of the Georgetown Gamecock Club and a past recipient of the Gamecock of the Year Award. Mr. Edwards was the first Tee Ball Coach in Georgetown under the Georgetown Recreation Department and received an award for serving as Dixie Youth Farm League Commissioner in 1981. He coached Dixie Youth Baseball for many years and coached youth football for several years. He enjoyed going to South Carolina Football games with family and special friends, especially Mike and Felicia Wilson.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 52 years, are his daughter, Virginia Anne King (Larry) of Garden City; his son, Michael L. Edwards (Kimberly) of Georgetown; two grandchildren, Jameson Edwards and Kaitlyn Edwards, both of Georgetown; a sister, Betty Raines (Jim) from Florence; an aunt, Gloria E. Smith of Covington, GA; a sister-in-law, Pat Harrington (Gene); several nephews; and of course, many friends.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to his caregivers Vera Kirkland and Mary Beth Brawley and to the doctors, nurses, CNAs for the wonderful care given by hospice. A special thank you to Dr. Carol Bogdon and Katey Felts for their care and concern.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tidelands Community Hospice at 2591 N. Fraser Street, Georgetown, SC 29440 or Messiah Baptist Church at 2719 Old Charleston Road, Georgetown, SC 29440.
