Dena Dickerson Obituary

Dena Marie Smith Dickerson, 53, wife of Gordon Emory Dickerson, Sr., passed away Monday, January 16, 2017 at Tideland Community Hospice.

Born in Portsmith, Virginia on July 11, 1963, she was a daughter of Gerald E. Smith and the late Margaret Ann Stroud Smith.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 5pm at Georgetown Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends after the service.

Mrs. Dena was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and teacher. She was a devoted member of Untied Christian Outreach where she served as a Sunday School teacher and at one time the church's secretary. She was a teacher at Georgetown Presbyterian Child Development Center for 12 years where she loved her classes of two-year-olds endlessly. In her free time, she loved sewing and crocheting. Her memory quilts and hats are cherished by many friends, family, and students. Mrs. Dena was an amazing cook whose genuine love for animals and children and her down to earth and humble nature endeared her to everyone she met. She will truly be missed by so many.

Surviving are in addition to her husband of 28 years are her children, Gordon Emory Dickerson, Jr., Gabriel Lee Dickerson, Cody James Smith, Joshua Adam Dickerson, Elizabeth Ann Dickerson, Hannah Marie Smith Dickerson, and Jonathan Adam Smith Dickerson; her beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren; her sisters, Crystal Carr (Scotty) and Brandi Baltrip; her brother, Brooks Smith (Stephanie); and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her mother, she was predeceased by a son, John Wesley Smith, and a brother, Jerry Lee Smith.
