Deborah Tanner Obituary

Deborah "Debbie" Bragdon Tanner, the beloved mother of Emma Kate Tanner and Chelsea Lynn Tanner, on Wednesday morning, December 21, 2016, conducted the final score of her life's song - a song of overcoming joy and triumph.

Mrs. Tanner was born the daughter of Otis Olin Bragdon and Lucille Wrenn Bragdon on March 29, 1951 in Georgetown. She was a 1969 graduate of Winyah High School; a 1977 graduate of the University of Georgia earning a Masters in Music Education and was a member of the University's Red Coat Marching Band. Ms. Tanner was a 34-year teacher serving at Pleasant Hill Middle and High Schools as Band Director and in 2001 until now, at Johnsonville Middle School as Music Education teacher. At JMS, Debbie was instrumental in establishing and still directed the JMS Rock Band. She was a member of the Union United Methodist Church where she served as the Music Director for 30+ years and was active in the Women of Faith. For many years, Debbie was faithfully active and supportive of the H.U.G.S. Program of Georgetown Equestrian Center. Sunday night, Dec. 4, 2016, Debbie directed her last Christmas Musical at Union UMC entitled "He Is Here" which she co-arranged and wrote a number songs with several other local musicians. Her life's song has been finished on this earth, but the Victorious Reprise has begun and shall resound through out eternity declaring: "Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee, how great Thou art."

She leaves behind: a daughter, Emma Kate Tanner; a brother, Dannye (Bonnie) Bragdon; and a large number of extended family.

She was predeceased by: her parents; and a daughter, Chelsea.

Service of Death and Resurrection will be 11AM Friday morning, December 23, 2016 at the Union United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery directed by the Hemingway Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home.

Visitation will be 6-8 PM, Thursday evening, December 22, 2016 in the Union UMC sanctuary.

Memorials may be made to the Union United Methodist Church

Sweet kind soul that introduced me to music in the 7th grade at Pleasant Hill. She is part of the reason for my deep love of all music today. She will be missed.
