Brantley Toomer Obituary

BRANTLEY EUGENE TOOMER 12/14/53- 5/12/25 Captain Brantley Toomer, aged 71, passed away peacefully doing what he knew best-working hard and speaking his mind. Born in Key West, Florida, to Christine and Frank Toomer Sr. Brantley was a lifelong commercial fisherman who spent decades on the water, rain or shine. He knew the tides, the seasons, and the stubbornness it took to make a life from the river. His no-nonsense approach and tireless work ethic earned him respect from fellow fishermen and those who knew the demands of the trade. He was known for his grit, his work ethic, and as a jack of all trades. He is survived by his children, Jeannie Toomer Thompson (Ricky), Paul Toomer, Suzanne Toomer; grandchildren Tiffany, Taylor and Destiny; siblings Larry Toomer (Tina), Debbie Tucker (Duane), Kenny Toomer (Debbie), Dora Fletcher (David), and Penny Orrel. He is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Bubba Toomer; and siblings, Suzanne Woods, Barbara Sfida and Frank Toomer Jr. Brantley will be remembered in the places he loved; the docks, the river and the quiet corners where a man could be alone with his thoughts. A gathering in his memory will be held on Friday, June 20th at 2pm at the Bluffton Oyster Factory Park where friends and family can come together and share their stories-just as he would have wanted.
