Bill Love Obituary

William "Bill" Barton Love, IV, 61, of Georgetown, SC, loving son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend peacefully entered the kingdom of Heaven on Monday, August 23, 2021.

Born September 30, 1959, on Folly Beach, he was raised in Christian faith by his loving parents, Reverend William Barton Love, III and Emily Funderburk Love. He, his parents and siblings were devoted members of United Methodist congregations throughout the Lowcountry.

Settling in Georgetown, Bill touched the lives of many as the proud owner of Love Concrete Contractors. It brought him great joy to put in a hard day's work with his devoted Loyd and Brad. For many years at the conclusion of his jobs, his customers were gifted with a hand-crocheted piece by his beloved mother, Emily.

Bill loved his family, and adored his mother. He took such joy in coming up with special ways to make her smile. Emily never knew what little surprise from the outdoors that Bill may be offering or which hand to choose from behind his back. One of her most cherished surprises from Bill was their little dog, Tudee.

As a faithful member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church, Bill loved his church family. He always felt welcomed, loved and needed as does everyone who worships there. Bill also treasured his lifelong friends and caring neighbors-all of whom were like family to him.

Bill delighted in God's creations all around him, especially in the peace and beauty of Black River. He found joy in God's smallest creatures, from the evening music of the katydids to the Bald Eagles that would sun themselves on the cedar trees after a hard rain. And whenever he saw a double rainbow over the River, he would comment, "How could you not believe in God at such a sight." Taking after his beloved mother, he especially saw the simple beauty in the Babydoll Rose that his mother grew from the same rose bush her mother passed from one generation to another.

Surviving Bill are his sister, Elaine Louise Love of Georgetown, SC; brother-in-law, Joseph Stout Hardwick of Marion, SC; niece, Megan Love Blomqvist (Jonas) of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; nephew, Joseph Kristian Hardwick (Caroline) of Marion, SC; niece, Emily Kendall Flock (Chris) of Charleston, SC; great-nephews, Liam Christopher Flock, Erik Jonas Blomqvist, Joseph Bodie Hardwick and Ezra Stout Flock; great-niece Emily Love Blomqvist; and his loving cousins. Bill is preceded in death by his loving parents, Reverend William Barton Love, III and Emily Funderburk Love; and his sister, Emily Claire Hardwick (identical twin to Louise).

The funeral service was held on Saturday, August 28, 2021 in Hartsville, SC. Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Directors cared for the family.

In recent days, Bill was cared for by the loving team at Roper Hospice Cottage in Mt. Pleasant and memorials may be made in his honor at rsfhfoundation.org/honor.

Louise, I was unaware that Bill had passed away. I live in Texas now and not really on social media. I just happened to be sitting in church and for some reason during worship I started thinking about Bill and decided to google him and found the obituary. I know that you know how much he impacted me growing up. Why he chose to let a skinny 9 year old kid hang out with him I´ll never know but I´m so grateful he did. Even though I haven´t seen him years I still think about him and I will miss him. I would love to catch up with you and Joseph sometime.

Bill was a kind and thoughtful person. He had a servant´s heart just like his parents and sisters. Our girls still have the alligator teeth he surprised them with one day. He will be missed and loved.

Bill was our neighbor in Georgetown for just about all my life. Bill would bring us small gifts when we visited: crocheted snowflakes from Mrs. Love, tomatoes from his garden, boiled peanuts from Louise... Most recently, he would bring a bag of chocolates for Abigail. He'd tell her with a smile it was ok if she shared with Nathan. We'll miss Bill; we already have these last few weeks.
