Betty Myers Obituary

Betty (BJ) Myers, age 68, of Anderson, S.C. passed Thursday, March 28, 2019 at AnMed Health Medical Center. She was born in Georgetown County and is the daughter of the late Herman and Rosa Bell Morant Myers. She was a graduate of Choppee High School and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry with a minor in Biology from South Carolina State University. She received her Master of Science Degree at Clemson University. During her 30 year tenure as an Educator in Anderson School District 5, she taught science at Southwood Middle School and Westside High School respectively. Betty was an active member of Mount Zion Baptist Church where she served as the Financial Secretary; her church ministries include Bible Study, Sunday School, Mass Choir, Youth Mentor, and Chairman of the Education Committee. Betty was a Charter Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Anderson Alumna Chapter. She served as chapter President, Vice President, Financial Secretary of the Anderson Alumna Chapter, as well as Co-Chair of the Jabberwock Committee. BJ was also a Diamond Life Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She has been a faithful member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. since 1972. Betty was a member of the South Carolina Morticians Association, Inc. and a life member of the National Funeral Directors and Morticians Association, Inc. She was named Professional of the Year for the SCMA, Inc. and served as the SCMA State Secretary for a number of years. Betty was employed at Holloway's Funeral Home, Inc. for over 50 years and is recognized as the first License Lady Funeral Director for the firm. She received her degree in Funeral Service from Piedmont Technical College. Survivors include her daughter, Brandi Nicole Myers-Jones of the home; three granddaughters, Jazlyn Myers, Jayla Jones, and Jordyn Jones, all of the home; four sisters, Theopia Myers of Georgetown, S.C., Patricia Onley of Pittsburg, PA., Wylean (Gene) Bromell of Inglewood, California, and Ella Frazier of Georgetown, S.C.; one brother, Michael (Sheri) Myers of Conway, S.C. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Elizabeth Myers, and a brother, Kenneth Myers. Funeral Services for BJ Myers will be held Thursday April 4, 2019 1:00 P.M. Mount Zion Baptist Church, 206 Zion Street, Belton, S.C. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. at Mount Zion Baptist Church, burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. The family is at the home of Walter Lee and Glenda Jefferson, 109 Burr Drive, Belton, S.C.
