Becky Jacques Obituary
Becky Jacques
Becky Elaine Benfield Jacques went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 28, 2025, after a long battle with cancer. The family wishes to give special appreciation to Care Partners Solace Hospice of Asheville, NC, who lovingly cared for Becky during her last 18 days. Becky grew up in Haywood County. Becky was a member of Calvary Road Baptist Church in Maggie Valley.
Becky was the daughter of the late Thomas Benfield and late Darlene Jolley Briggs. Her siblings are Barbara Earley of Canton, Ben Benfield of Clarksville, TN, and her loving sister, Bonnie. She was married to John Frances Jacques III, for 29 years until he passed from cancer on Sept. 28, 2018. John was a veteran who served in Desert Storm. Becky and John lived most of their married life in Clarksville, TN.
Becky graduated from Western Carolina University with a degree in Middle Grades Education. She earned advanced degrees from Georgia Southern and Austin Peay. Becky worked as a middle school teacher teaching 6th grade reading for over 25 years.
Becky was a natural teacher. She loved children of all ages and especially enjoyed sharing her love of reading and language development. Becky found great pleasure in developing lesson plans for her students. She was organized, prepared, and had a disciplined classroom. She had high expectations of all children whom she taught or mentored through the years.
Becky will be missed by all who knew her: especially her great nephews and niece: Samson, Stella, and Spencer. They will miss "Auntie Becky" and spending time with her in her retirement home in Maggie Valley.
Becky loved traveling, camping, and visiting extended family. Her favorite places were Niagara Falls, Hawaii, United Kingdom, and the beach. Becky was a "dog" person and enjoyed her various pets through the years. Donations may be given to Sarge's Animal Rescue Foundation, Inc., 256 Industrial Park Drive, Suite B, Waynesville, NC 28786 or www.sarges.org.
Family and friends are invited to attend the Becky's Memorial Service at Beulah Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, 483 Sunset Circle, Canton, NC on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 1 pm.
