Annie Shelly Obituary

Annie Sue Carter McDowell-Shelly, 66, the widow of Freddie Gene Shelly, passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at her residence.

Mrs. Shelly was born the daughter of Blease Cole Carter and Lula L. Carter Binnarr on May 10, 1950 in Georgetown. She was a member of the Grace Temple Revival Center.

She was a loving mother, cherished grandmother, caring sister, and loyal friend.

Annie Sue and Freddie were married on March 8, 1985 and celebrated 22 years together. The union of their home includes: seven children, Blease Albert (Sabrina) McDowell, Mary M. (Edward) Cooper, Johnny Arthur McDowell, and Sam (Becky) McDowell, Dena (Daryl) Pope, Marlene (Glenn) McConnell, and Darlene (Junior) Blakely; thirteen grandchildren, Nicholas, Jade, Eli, Trinity, Savannah, Rose Marie, Charlie, Channing, Chelsea, Kayla, Tina, Anthony, and Peyton; and one great-grandson, Charlie.

She also leaves behind: a brother, John Carter; and four sisters, Betty Williamson, Mary Ward, Faye Boone, and Geneva Howard.

She was predeceased by: her parents; her husband; two brothers, Wilson Browder, and Kenneth Carter; and three sisters, Sarah Carter, Ruthamae Simmons, and Louise West. A Home Going Celebration will be 3PM, Sunday, June 5, 2016, at the Grace Temple Revival Center. Internment will follow in the Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens directed by the Georgetown Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home.

Visitation will be 6-8PM, Saturday, June 4, 2016 at the Georgetown Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Saint Frances Animal Center, 125 North Ridge Street, Georgetown, SC 29440.

McKenzie Funeral Home is honored to serve the Shelly family.
