Andrew Schiavone Obituary

Andrew Gerard Schiavone III, 69, of Dataw Island, SC, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, June 9, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Andrew was born on August 7, 1955, in Bronxville, NY. He was predeceased by his parents, Andrew Gerard Schiavone II, and Marie (Fleishman) Graefenecker, his stepfather, Don Graefenecker, and his sister, Patricia Edmands. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Melissa (Maxwell) Schiavone; his two children, Drew Schiavone (Sarah) of Summerville, SC, and Chandler Schiavone of Charlotte, NC; and his two beloved grandchildren, Mary Charlotte and Emerson Schiavone. Andrew is also survived by his sister, Linda Mullane (Tom) of Chappaqua, NY, and his brother, Lyle Schiavone (Linda) of Williamsburg, VA, his stepmother, Ellen Schiavone of Williamsburg, VA, his brother-in-law, Bob Edmands of Guilford, CT; as well as nieces and nephews: Holly Giffault, Ashley Edmands, Thomas A. Mullane (Angela), Kelly Shaull (Taylor), Lyle Schiavone II (Maggie), Anna Covington (Mackenzie), Luciano Schiavone, and grandnieces: Willa Shaull and Kennedy Covington. Andrew spent many weekends and summers in Pine Plains, NY, at his grandparents' home, creating countless cherished memories. In 1965, the family moved from Scarsdale to Chappaqua, NY, where Andrew cultivated his love of the outdoors and planted many of the trees that still grow on the family property. He graduated from Horace Greeley High School in 1973, where he formed many lifelong friendships. He graduated from Quinnipiac University in 1977 with a Bachelor's of Science degree in International Business. Upon graduation, he began his long and successful career in the hospitality business. Andrew learned the business from the ground up, starting as a dishwasher to eventually becoming a hotel general manager. Throughout his career, he remained actively involved in many hospitality and community organizations such as Skål International, Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce, Central Florida Hotel & Lodging Association, Osceola Resort Area Council and Sertoma International. Even in retirement, Andrew stayed actively involved in his community on Dataw Island as a contributing member of the House and Social Committee. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who put family above all else. His favorite family trips were skiing in Utah, wine tasting in California, or relaxing on the beach at Pawley's Island, SC. Relatives and friends are invited to join us for a Celebration of Life on Saturday, July 26, 2025 in the Carolina Ballroom at Dataw Island Country Club from 3:00-5:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Andrew's memory can be made to Friends of Caroline Hospice or the Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute Foundation.

Melissa you and your entire family are in my thoughts and prayers. Andy was an integral part of Durbin Companies and I'll never forget his dedication and effort.

He and I also share a connection with Moffit where I was treated. He will always be remember for his wit, his tenacity and his laugh.
