Richard Anderson Obituary

Richard "Dickie" Earl Anderson, 93, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, June 5, 2025. He was born on Saturday, August 15, 1931 to Carl Oscar Anderson and Ida Gardner Anderson in St. Paul, Minnesota. June 5th marked the 71st wedding anniversary of Carolyn and Dickie.
Dickie attended Dentsville High School and the University of South Carolina. Dickie served four years in the Navy during the Korean Conflict, and nine years in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. He then began his career with the Department of the Army. Dickie retired in 1993 as the Senior Civilian at Fort Jackson serving as the Director of Logistics, culminating a 42 year career with the Department of Defense.
Dickie was a natural athlete, and one of his greatest joys in life was sports. He coached Little League and Pony League baseball. Dickie taught and coached tennis for over 30 years at the Richland County Tennis Center. He coached the South Carolina Junior Davis Cup Team, and was also the Head Coach of the Ladies Varsity Tennis Team at Heathwood Hall where he ended his coaching career at age 80. Dickie was an avid golfer at both Columbia Country Club and Mid Carolina Club.
Dickie's competitive spirit and infectious laugh will be remembered by all who knew him.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday, June 12 in the Greenlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel, 845 Leesburg Rd., Columbia, SC 29209. The family will receive friends at the Anderson family home following the services at the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital at stjude.org
Carrying on his spirit are his son, Richard Anderson, Jr. (Cory) of Orlando, FL; his daughter, Susan Anderson of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, Richard Anderson, III and Ashleigh Anderson; brother, David Anderson (Donna); sister, Sandra Babbitt; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
