Rhonda Moody Obituary

Rhonda Burnette Moody, surrounded by family at her home in Lexington, SC, passed away from this earthly home and was made perfect to join her Lord in heaven for eternity on Sunday, September 21, 2025 at the age of 75. One of four children, Rhonda was born to Larry and Wilma Burnette on February 12, 1950 in Charlotte, NC. Having a fondness for the name Larry, she met and ultimately fell in love with Larry Moody at a Georgia Tech football game in 1968. This past August they celebrated 55 years of marriage. She was the mother of Clay (Kemper) of Denmark, SC; Blake (Rebecca) of Mount Pleasant, SC; and Brooke Edging (Steven) of Hixson, TN. She was the loving Nannie to Belton Williamson (Blake), William Moody, Jeffrey Moody, Peyton Moody, Harper Moody, Deklan Moody, Sarah Edging, Samuel Edging, Titus Edging, and Ezra Edging. Rhonda was sister to Sandra Stribling (Johnnie), Marsha Rakes, and Greg Burnette (Kelly). She was a wonderful aunt and cousin to many. Rhonda was a graduate of Georgia State College in Atlanta where she studied Mathematics. She was a huge fan of Georgia Tech, the Braves, the Varsity, and loved making amazing peach jelly and her secret grits recipe. She had a green thumb and enjoyed working in her beautiful yard. This was usually followed by relaxing on the porch drinking coffee or sweet tea, depending on the weather. She was never far from her tube of lipstick and her hoop earrings. One of Rhonda's greatest joys was to be with her grandchildren. She loved to have tea parties, jump rope, play games, swim, sing to them, and travel with them. When her family of 21 got together she called it "Moody Madness." She was a very smart lady who once won the county spelling bee. As a follower and lover of Jesus Christ, Rhonda leaves a legacy of faith and service to her church family of Lexington Presbyterian Church. Rhonda led a women's Bible study for 14 years, developing 28 semesters of curriculum studying over 35 books of the Bible. She avoided commentary and focused purely on "what the Word says". Though she could not name her favorite book of the Bible because it was always the current one she was studying, she knew the Word was living and active. She knew it met the reader where they were by discerning the exact message of the Lord for us in that exact moment. Her lessons are an amazing legacy to hand down to her children, grandchildren, and hundreds of ladies through the years who have participated in the studies. Rhonda also had a heart for missions and served in coordinating missions conferences and events. As she prepared to leave her earthly home, Rhonda was actively involved in helping the team prepare for this year's mission weekend. Throughout the years, Rhonda passionately supported missionaries through finances and prayer, to include Steven and Brooke in Uganda. Rhonda's career was just as dynamic as her interests and talents. She taught middle school math, coordinated support for Evangelism Explosion, catered meals at the convention center, welcomed clients as a receptionist at H&R Block, and retired from Eastman Chemical Company as an Employee Benefits Assistant. Rhonda is preceded in death by her father, Willie Larry Burrnette, her brother-in-law Gary Rakes, her niece Brandy Rakes, and her cousin Kathy Wade. Rhonda will be greatly missed but we know Jesus greeted her with "Well done, good and faithful servant." The family invites friends to join them for visitation and remembrance on Friday October 17 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Lexington Presbyterian. A celebration of life service will be held the following day, October 18, at 11:00 am also at Lexington Presbyterian, 246 Barr Road, Lexington, SC 29072. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Rhonda's memory to the Mission's Fund of Lexington Presbyterian Church.
