Patricia Patteson Obituary

Patricia Clayton Patteson of Lexington, SC entered into eternal rest on Tuesday July 8,2025 following a 8 month battle with glioblastoma. Patsy, as she was affectionately known, was born July 17, 1936 in Schenectady, NY to Massey Barnes Clayton and Dorothea Sheasley Clayton of Birmingham, Al. The Claytons moved to Wilson Dam, AL, then to Signal Mountain, TN where she grew up and formed lifelong friendships. She spent 1 ½ years at Center College in Danville, KY studying music until she left to marry Rev. Harold Reed Patteson, Sr.. They enjoyed a marriage of 65 years until his passing in 2023. Patsy felt the most important thing to know about her was her relationship with Jesus Christ and how He had saved her so many years ago. She was a partner in her husband's ministry throughout the years being involved in music, teaching Sunday School, leading Bible studies, women's discipleship, and prayer. She also enjoyed gardening, reading, watching the bluebirds in her yard, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her laugh and infectious smile will be remembered by all who knew her. She was predeceased by her husband Harold, her brother Massey Clayton, and most recently, her oldest son Reed. She is survived by her sister Priscilla Watts of Knoxville, TN, and her children: David (Beth) Patteson, Cynthia Patteson, Margaret (Michael) Janaskie, as well as Marjorie Patteson, widow of Reed. She had 14 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to express its gratitude to Prisma hospice for excellent medical care, and to the individual sitters who spent night and day tenderly caring for Patsy on her journey Home: Laurel Griffin, Laura Campbell, Rebecca Quiggle, Stephanie Hopkins. The celebration of life to honor Mrs. Patsy will be held at 11 o'clock on Saturday, July 26th, 2025 at Lexington Presbyterian Church, 246 Barr Road, Lexington, South Carolina 29072. The family will receive friends from 10 o'clock until 11 o'clock, prior to the service at the church. Memorial gifts may be made to Geneva Benefits Ministerial Relief Fund (Genevabenefits.org) or Oliver Gospel Mission.
