Mollie Brown Obituary

Loading

Our Mom, Molly Brown (or Miss Molly as she was better known) left her pain behind and went into the presence of Jesus, Tuesday evening, March 24, 2026.

Molly was born on April 6, 1927, and was two weeks from her 99th birthday when she passed on. She was born deep in the mountains of West Virginia into a family of eleven siblings, living on a large working farm called Twelvepole. Her stories of growing up were fascinating. She was the last living child of Lawrence and Mary Mullins.

In 1947, she married Holmes Brown, also a native of the West Virginia mountains. After making a home together in Logan County, W.V., they moved to Daytona Beach, Florida, in 1958 with their three young children. Times were difficult, but Molly always made everything work. By her own example, she taught her children the importance of prayer and to love and serve the Lord. She left behind a worn and tattered Bible that was always by her side.

She loved her church, White Chapel Church of God, and was a dedicated worker in the Women's Missionary Society and the choir and was always eager to cook for family and friends. She was a gracious hostess, and everyone was always welcome in her home.

In 1982, she and Holmes moved to Columbia, South Carolina, to be closer to family. They enjoyed many years and friends there. In later years, they found tremendous love and friendships at Kittiwake Baptist Church.

Molly is survived by three children, Peggy and David Germany, Tom and Linda Brown, and Becky and Ron Bower; grandchildren, Rebecca West (Matt), Tommy Bower (Rachael), Christi Herod (Matthew), and Rebecca Thornton (Toby), and Ashleigh Brown; great grandchildren, Charlie West, Macy Bower, Rachel Herod, Pike West, Ainslee Brown, Manny Stevens, Brayden Thornton, Avery Ingram, Emma Herod, and Jack Bower, and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was proceeded in death by her husband of 67 years, by parents and brothers and sisters, by two baby daughters Cathy and Jeanie, and a grandson, Andy Brown.

Services will be held on Friday, March 27, 2026, at Thompson Funeral Home, 4720 Augusta Road, Lexington, S.C. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by the funeral at 12:00 noon. For those unable to attend, the service will be streaming live via the following link:
