Miriam Smith Obituary

Loading

Miriam McGee Smith, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2026, at her home in West Columbia, South Carolina, surrounded by her loving family-just one day shy of her 83rd birthday. She was born on March 1, 1943, in Great Falls, South Carolina, to the late Ted O. McGee and Pearly McGee.

Miriam was a proud graduate of Brookland-Cayce High School and spent most of her life in West Columbia, where she built a warm and welcoming home filled with love, laughter, and hospitality. She was the owner and operator of Miriam's Interiors on Meeting Street, where her eye for beauty and passion for design touched many in her community.

Known for her generous spirit, Miriam delighted in hosting dinner parties for friends and loved ones. Her kitchen was a place of joy, and she will be fondly remembered as a fantastic baker whose creations brought comfort and happiness to many.

Miriam was a woman of faith who found peace and inspiration in her Christian beliefs. She enjoyed watching the Hour of Power with Dr. Robert Schuller and listening to the timeless music of Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Franklin D. Smith and Robert N. Smith; and her brothers, Randolph McGee, LuRue McGee, and Ted McGee Jr.

Miriam leaves behind a loving family who will cherish her memory: her brother, Carroll McGee; her daughters, Tania Padgett (Darrell) and Allison Ocean (Jeffrey Holliday); her stepdaughters, Robin Murray (Greg) and Meg Springett (Warren); her granddaughter, Nikki McManus (JP); her nephews, Teddy McGee, Kevin McGee, and Brent McGee; her nieces, Heather Dickerson and Hollie McGee; and her lifelong friend, Martha Brooks.

Miriam was laid to rest in a private ceremony at Southland Cemetery on March 23, 2026.

Her legacy of love, kindness, and generosity will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. The family invites you to share your favorite memories and stories of Miriam as a way to honor her life and the joy she brought to others.
