Melissa Henson Obituary

Melissa Frost Henson, 50, of Blythewood, SC, passed away on Friday, April 10, 2026. Born on December 7, 1975, in Lancaster County, South Carolina, Melissa was the daughter of Thomas Henry Frost and Cathy Denise Bruce Frost.

Melissa was a 1994 graduate of Great Falls High School. Her passion for caring for others led her to pursue nursing, attending USC Upstate and later Midlands Technical College, where she earned her Associate Degree in Nursing. Her dedication to her profession was furthered as she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Registered Nursing from South University. She dedicated nearly 30 years to the health and wellbeing of others working in the areas of: Newborn Nursery, Endoscopic Surgery, Emergency Room, Pediatrics, Hospice, and Women's Health. She was most proud of her contributions to opening the Children's Day Hospital and Pediatric Sedation Unit at Prisma Health Children's Hospital and most recently leading and growing the Midlands Women's and Children's Clinical Research Department at Prisma Health.

Melissa had an innate ability to connect with and befriend all that she encountered. If you were a friend of hers, you were cared and loved by her always and she made sure you knew every chance she had. She also made sure that you knew of her love of all things Disney; often joking that she would one day retire and go work at Disney World as a fairy godmother. She is now a fairy godmother for all. She enjoyed peaceful moments on her back porch; time spent anywhere near water or the mountains while relishing in all of God's creations. Of all her passions none were as great as her love and affinity for family. Missy and her devoted husband were fortunate enough to share 29 loving years of marriage and accomplishments while keeping Christ central within their lives. Being a mother was her greatest and most prideful accomplishment. There was nothing she wouldn't do for them, and she made sure they knew how much she loved them every day.

In addition to her parents of Great Falls, SC, she is survived by her husband, Van Henson; children, Bryce Henson of Little River, SC and Harper Henson of Blythewood, SC; sister, Kimberly Kirchenbauer (Adam) of Goose Creek, SC; in-laws, Tommy and Ann Henson of Great Falls, SC, brother-in-law, Eric Henson (Tonya), of Great Falls, SC; nephews, Matthew Kirchenbauer of Goose Creek, SC and Connor Henson of Great Falls, SC, as well as her niece, Kenley Henson of Great Falls, SC.

A memorial service to honor Melissa's life will be held at 11 o'clock, Saturday, April 18th at Village Church, 574 Rimer Pond Rd, Blythewood, SC. A visitation for family and friends will immediately follow in the church lobby.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her memory to the Prisma Health Children's Hospital – Midlands, 1600 Marion Street, Columbia, SC 29201.
