Larry Morrison Obituary

Larry Wayne Morrison, 69, of Columbia, died peacefully on Sunday, September 28, 2025, in his home while holding his loving wife's hand. Born on January 5, 1956, in Danville, Virgina, he was a son of the late Van Buron Morrison, Jr. and Gladys Amos Morrison. Larry lived a life full of love, kindness, and hard work. He was deeply devoted to his family, friends, and business. Larry was always ready to lend a hand, give his last dime, or shirt off his back to help someone in need. He was the proud owner of a recycling company for over 40 years, which he started with no machines, equipment, or fancy tools, just his determination, dedicated work, and passion for recycling to protect our precious environment. Larry's two girls, Sabrina and Christina, will continue his legacy with his same dedication, hard work, and honesty. A true jack of all trades, Larry could fix just about anything. Larry was a figure it out person, whatever that may take, and full of wisdom. He was known for his dependability, punctuality, preparedness, and perseverance. Larry was a natural leader and earned the respect of all who knew him. His laughter always filled the room he was in. Larry lived life to the fullest and enjoyed traveling on worldwide cruises with his wife, Betty. Betty always brought out the best in Larry and they cherished each waking moment with one another. Together, they were the perfect adorable couple. Larry had a strong sense of respect for others throughout his life. He will be remembered most as a loving husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, brother, and friend. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Betty J. Morrison; daughters, Sabrina Fay Gillian (Dana Marand) and Christina A. Lage (Joseph Lee). He also leaves behind his siblings, Van Buron Morrison, III, Carolyn Coleman (Fredrick Thomas), Stephen Oneil Morrison, and Davie Alan Morrison (Sharon K.); grandchildren, Kathy Miles, Tina Miles, Linda Miles, Wayne Shockley, and Bonnie Shockley; stepchildren, Hayward Miles, Eddie Miles, Bonnie Miles, and Billy Miles; and a multitude of great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by, his sister, Mary Louise Morrison; and sister-in-law, Patricia Pearce Morrison. A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 6, 2025, at 3 o'clock at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Drive Chapel,5202 Colonial Drive, Columbia, SC 29203. A visitation will be held an hour prior to the service for family and friends to gather. Burial will follow the service at Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens, 2603 Two Notch Rd, Columbia, SC 29204. Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Drive Chapel, is assisting the family.
