Larry Jenkins Obituary

Larry Jenkins was born May 1, 1953, in Columbia, South Carolina, the beloved son of the late Mr. Jacob Jenkins Sr. and Frances Jacobs Jenkins. He was also lovingly raised by his late stepmother, Lula Mae Jenkins. On Tuesday, September 16, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones, Larry transitioned to his eternal resting place into the arms of our Lord and Savior. Larry graduated from Spring Valley High School in Columbia, SC in 1971. After graduating, he joined the U. S. Navy and served as an Electrician for 14 years, both on active duty and in the reserves. He later earned a certification in electrician studies from Midlands Technical College. Professionally, he spent 30 years in machinist, maintenance and supervisory roles at Wheel Trueing Tool Company and GKN (DANA). During the years, he also devoted time to his trucking business. In 2018, Larry retired after a decade of working as an Electrician at Fort Jackson. Larry also proudly dedicated many years working as a bartender at the Pine Tree Hunt Club and at family events. Known for his skill and craftsmanship, Larry was passionate about working with his hands-whether restoring his Ford Mustang, fishing by the water, planting flowers, cooking specialty dishes, or caring for his rental properties. He looked out for others, was always eager to lend a hand and loved creating and repairing things for those he cared about. In addition to his parents, Larry he is preceded in death by his brother, Anthony Jenkins. Larry's legacy of kindness and generosity lives on through his loved ones. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Catherine Jenkins; son, Larry Brewer, Columbia, SC; daughter, Brittnee Jenkins, Fort Worth, TX; stepson, Jamie Henderson, Columbia, SC; one granddaughter and one step-granddaughter. He is also survived by his loving siblings, Betty (Freddie) Jackson, Caroline (Ernest) Harrison, Jacob (Brenda) Jenkins Jr., and Joseph Jenkins, all of Columbia, SC. Additionally, he leaves behind sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends. Larry's life was defined by service, hard work, and a deep love for his family. Though Larry has passed, his love, thoughtfulness, and unwavering support will continue to inspire those who knew him.
